#RPGaDay 2017: Day 11 – Which ‘dead game’ would you like to see reborn?

For today I have two answers.

rpg_a_day_2017

I think both the RPGs I have picked can be considered ‘dead’, at least technically. You’ll see why I’m saying this. Let’s move to my picks.

Warhammer 40K Roleplay

Technically, this can be considered dead because it’s production by Fantasy Flight Games has been discontinued. The reason that I’m not sure if I should really call it ‘dead’ is because it was discontinued in February 28th, 2017. Also, there are many people still playing.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to acquire any copies of the games in time and their price will probably increase now that production has stopped.

Dune: Chronicles of the Imperium

This is the product of my research. From what I found, this is a game designed by Last Unicorn Games. However, the company was absorbed by Wizards of the Coast and only 3000 copies were printed. There was supposed to be a d20 version as well, but the project was shelved.

The reason I’m not sure if it can be considered ‘dead’ is because it wasn’t really ‘alive’ to begin with. The Dune series are very special to me and I’d love to be able to play an RPG based on it. I’d like to see how a Mentant or a Bene Gesserit would work in an RPG system.

And that’s my answer for today’s question. I really hope these two RPGs will be published (again) in the future. I’d love to get a copy of them in my hands.

Tomorrow’s question is “Which RPG has the most inspiring interior art?”. I have a limited amount of RPGs in my collection but I’ll see what I can do.

So until then, have fun!

Edit: Moments after I posted this, people were kind enough to inform me that a new Warhammer 40K RPG is going to be released in 2018. These are very exciting news for me! You can check out the link in the comments for more information.

  1. Funny you should say that re: WH40k. In ENWorld’s report today on the announcement of a new WH40k RPG by Ulisses NA, there’s also a mention of the old WH40k RPGs getting released on DriveThruRPG “shortly” so you may not have to wait too long to get hold of a copy…
