I took an afternoon nap today. It was much needed but afternoon naps make me feel like a zombie when I wake up.
But yeah, rest is important, and taking care of yourself in general. Burn out is a thing and don’t pay attention to anyone saying otherwise. However, everyone deals with it differently. For the purpose of this post, let’s focus on GM burn out and some ways to recover from it.
Perhaps, just changing games can be enough. Fresh rules could make you feel better. Reading a well written and interesting new system have the potential of giving you the inspiration to run a game or two.
You can also attempt convincing a player to run a game. Getting on the other side of the screen could be refreshing and inspirational.
But keep in mind that maybe you just need a break from the hobby as a whole. Do something else, instead of having the normal session. Play board games, and there are a ton of them. Maybe have a Warhammer night, or a Eurogame night. You could even make it a thing, having a board game night every other session.
And that’s all for today. I had a really full day so I need some rest. But I’d like to know your ways of dealing with burn out. Tomorrow’s word is “banner”. I like this word.
