#RPGaDay2023 – Day 4: Most RECENT game bought

More acquisitions talk.

This time we’re talking about the most recent game bought. Again, I will play with words and answer more questions, in an attempt to not give a really boring answer because I haven’t done anything this year.

Most recent RPG bought

The most recent RPG I have bought is D&D 5th Edition and, specifically, the alternate cover version of Keys from the Golden Vault. Don’t ask me if it’s good because I doubt I have even opened the book. As I said, this year has been weird work-wise. I know it’s a collection of heist-themed adventures. It would be nice to try a heist since Dragon Heist was definitely not a heist. Don’t get me wrong, it was fun to run (and hopefully fun to play for my players) but I never got any heist vibes from it. The Alexandrian has written a very interesting remix of the adventure, but I found out about it after I had finished running it. I am in the middle of reading it, though, because I am sure it has some valuable insights. But let’s move on.

Most recent non-D&D RPG bought

I don’t want to always talk about D&D, so this version of the question tackles exactly that. Yesterday I mentioned I bought Vaesen last Autumn. I don’t remember if I only got the Core book or A Wicked Secret as well. I think I saw it next to the core but I am writing this from the terrace of my house and don’t want to go down the stairs and look for the books. I haven’t finished reading Vaesen but I like a lot the fact that you don’t have to use violence to solve your challenges. Not just that but, if I remember correctly, if you end up fighting things get very very dire. I should run a game soon, to be honest. But let’s do another answer.

Most recent GAME bought

Let’s broaden the circle a bit. What is the most recent physical game I bought? I say physical because I don’t want to include video games. I am basically talking about board games. The most recent board game is Warriors of Krynn. I think it counts as a board game, right? And I’d like to thank you for reminding me I have this game because I have finally some time to try it. I wonder if I should judge it as a board game or as a wargame. We shall see.

And that’s all for today. I hope you enjoy my ramblings as much as they confuse me. Tomorrow’s question leaves acquisitions behind and asks about the “OLDEST game you’ve played”. I am not an old school gamer so I doubt I have any interesting stories about ancient games but I’ll see what I can do.

And until next time, have fun!
