Published adventures make my life easier.
Published adventures are like ordering takeout. Cooking at home can be healthier and cheaper but it takes time and, sometimes, skill. Creating your own world and adventures is fun and creative but there are just times when you just want to run something without a ton of work. It’s not that running a published doesn’t require work, it’s just that it requires an easier kind of work. But, still, I prefer running my own adventures when I get the chance.
But what is my favourite published adventure? Like with yesterday’s question, the question for me is “What is your favourite published adventure CURRENTLY?”. I think I will go with Out of the Abyss. It’s not a masterpiece of an adventure but it taught me a great deal of running published adventures, as well as, the need to tailor the content to both your style and the preferences of the players.
And that’s my answer for today’s question. Tomorrow’s question is “Will still play in TWENTY years time…”. That’s going to be hard for me. At the moment, I don’t have any spare mental capacity to plan what I will be having tomorrow for lunch. But I will figure something out.
Out of the Abyss? Wow. That is the first time I have heard someone say something positive about this adventure. I would love to hear more. Why is this one your favourite? What did it teach you?

It’s sort of a passive-aggressive pick. I haven’t had the opportunity to run a lot of published campaigns. I have run Out of the Abyss and Waterdeep: Dragon Heist. Both aren’t on the top of the best publications from WotC. However, due to their difficulties, I learned how much prep is actually needed to run published adventures, what kind of prep is required, and, most importantly, that you MUST tailor the adventure to your preferences and the preferences of your players.
