Another August, another RPGaDay.
Even though I’ve been swamped with work since February and the site has gotten into a sort of hibernation (I will make an update post at some point, hopefully in August), I had to return for this. And, funnily enough, it seems the hosts of RPGaDay were also not sure if they’d be able to do it this year. But we are back again this year and I am really happy about it.
I don’t think there is a theme this year for the questions, but mostly an overarching positivity. So let’s not waste any more time (not because the temperature in my office is 30 degrees Celsius at 21:20 – everyone loves the Greek summer) and let’s go.
First RPG bought this year
For my brain this question is a bit confusing. By RPG does this mean the “core” rulebook of a RPG or a RPG product? It doesn’t really matter (that’s just the state of chaos in my mind talking) because I will just answer both.
I am pretty sure the first RPG product of the year was the first WotC publication for the year, which I will not bother looking up. I’ve been collecting the 5th Edition publications since 2014 and want to complete my collection. So I have told the LGS owner, and friend, of my plan and he makes sure to have a copy kept for me. The same goes for the three core rulebooks of D&D 2024 but after that the future is cloudy.
But now for the better interpretation of the question. What is the first “core” rulebook that I bought this year? I got this in June during the Free League sale. I am talking about Death in Space.
This is a postapocalyptic RPG that has been suggested to me multiple times. It is set in a universe that is slowly dying and people survive by exploring and scrapping older tech. I love the theme a lot. But I also love the book as a physical copy. It is small, shiny, and with artwork that is just right. It has light-weight rules and character creation is super quick.
And that’s it for today. I think it was a good question to start with. I have taken just a quick look at the rest of the questions and they seem interesting as well. And I believe some of them will allow me to highlight other RPG acquisitions I have made this year. Tomorrow’s question is “Most recently played”. It doesn’t say RPG so expect a list of recently played stuff.
And until next time, have fun!
