#RPGaDay2024 – Day 4: RPG with great art

Let’s talk about art.

Technically, you do not need art to play an RPG. However, RPG art is amazing. An RPG with great art makes the book itself more beautiful and fuels the imagination of the players. Theater of the mind is a way to play and having art helps make those imaginary scenes more vivid.

But let’s move to the question. What’s an RPG with great art. Based on the previous days you can pretty much guess what I’m going to say. You can go to the Free League website, go to their games catalogue, close your eyes and touch the screen. Any game your finger has touched has amazingly stunning (or stunningly amazing) art.

I have physical copies of Tales from the Loop, Vaesen, Dragonbane, Forbidden Lands, and Death in Space. If I open any of these and go to a page with art there is no way I won’t go “woah”. But for this question, I will pick Death in Space – because I think I have already mentioned the art of Tales from the Loop and Vaesen and, also, how beautiful the character sheet of Forbidden Lands is. This game and its art talk to me (Well, not literally, that would be a serious issue).

This is a salvaged spaceship. For me, it manages to tell me that this is not a shiny brand new ship. Also, the black and white gives me a darker vibe, making me think that this is not a happy setting. And I spent 5 minutes looking at this ship, even though I have already spent multiple 5 minutes looking at it since I bought the game.

And I think I am done for today. Tomorrow’s question is “RPG with great writing”. I may go to the dungeon and try to find an RPG that doesn’t come from Free League but I can’t make any promises.

And until next time, have fun!
