Would you sacrifice your identity for the sake of your people?
Forget Me Not is an adventure by Alex Clippinger for a party of 4 players between levels 5 and 10, and it’s all about gnolls. When the players meet a civilised gnoll, they are tasked with uncovering the truth behind their mysterious society.

The scenario
Let’s start with the scenario without giving away too much. In a desperate attempt to escape from Yeenoghu’s demonic influence, a gnoll tribe resorted to a ritual that erases individuals from the memories of their loved ones and also themselves. When a gnoll’s name is written on the Namestone, the gnoll becomes Forgotten, sacrificing its own identity for the sake of the tribe’s safety. But as the time for the next in line to become forgotten approaches, the gnoll fears a dark force is at play. Something doesn’t feel right about the ritual, and it’s the adventurers’ role to stop a fate that could be far worse than the sacrifice itself. The story is emotionally rich and brings a refreshing note to a traditional monster type. Its original concept presents a moral dilemma and is well-suited for a one-shot adventure. There are also suggestions for placing the adventure in the Forgotten Realms and plot hooks to engage the players and set the story.
Encounters
The encounters follow the gnoll theme featuring gnolls, gnoll pack lords and gnoll zombies. Scaling options are included, based on the party’s level to ensure the encounters are appropriately challenging, but they do not account for the party’s size. If your group is larger or smaller, the GM will need to adjust the numbers and difficulty accordingly to keep things balanced. The final confrontation can go multiple ways depending on the party’s actions. While you can certainly fight your way through the end, planning and careful thinking are rewarded with better outcomes.
Layout & Art
The structure is GM-friendly, with bold text emphasising details, making skill checks easily spotted, and boxes containing text for read-aloud narration, a great way for setting the scene and immersing the adventurers in the story.
The art is light on visual flair, mostly black and white, except for a full colored gnoll. The mood is supported by extended descriptions rather than vibrant illustrations, which may not be appealing to all groups.
Extras
Although the supplement doesn’t introduce new monsters, it features a unique, magical item called the Namestone. This item plays an important role in the story and could end up as a reward to the players, depending on the outcome of the scenario.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I find Forget Me Not an unforgettable adventure that challenges players to think carefully before acting. There is a risk of a tragic ending, so inform your players beforehand that this is not a classic dungeon crawler. The adventure offers a nice take on gnolls, providing a perspective rarely seen in short content. Would you run this adventure?
