DMs Guild Review – Feytouched Race Pack

Let’s sprinkle some feydust on our table!

Feytouched is a collection of homebrew species by Quintessential Gaming for D&D 5th edition and a silver best seller on the DMs Guild. The supplement is not an extension of existing ancestries, but a presentation of mythical creatures, and features lore and mechanics that reflect their origins.

Content

Feytouch presents four races: Kelpie, Nymph, Pixie and Cat Sidhe, along with information on their habitats, personality and traits to aid your storytelling as you craft and play your character.

Kelpie

Kelpies are shapeshifters that leave near water, and most of them are chaotic evil. Their shifting form is based on their three subraces. Equines are mostly male and have the ability to transform into horses, Phocids, also called selkies, are seals, and Cygnans are swans. When a kelpie transforms, some of its stats and traits do change as its type becomes fey instead of humanoid, while it can choose whether its equipment merges in its form or falls to the ground.

Nymph

Nymphs are tied to nature, either a specific location or an object, and their subraces reflect their environment. The first subrace is the Dryad, a nymph of trees and groves that possesses the ability to move from one tree to another. The second is Naiad, a water nymph that can merge with water and become invisible, and Asteriae, the third subrace, refers to a nymph that is bound to the stars, and can also become invisible at night or glow like the result of the Light cantrip. Moreover, all nymphs can cast the charm person spell once per short rest, without extending spell slots. Talking about charming creatures, aren’t we?

Pixie

If I could use one sentence to describe a pixie, that would be a tiny, flying and adorably chaotic trickster. Their small size makes them proficient with stealth, and if you thought that they would need custom-made equipment, then you are mistaken. Pixies can effectively shrink armour and weapons to fit themselves, with decreases in weight and non-magical damage that seem reasonable. Oh, and they can become invisible.

Cat Sidhe

A large black cat with a white spot on their chest, the Cat Sidhe is a rare and mysterious creature that appears as an elf for most of their lifetime. They prefer to shift into their feline form only at night, due to their secretive nature. As a Cat Sidhe, you gain the trait Nine Lives, which allows you to reroll a death saving throw die, once per long rest.

Layout & Art

The supplement follows a clean format, with a typical two-column style. Each race is clearly presented, with big headers that divide each section, making it easy to locate traits, subraces and lore at first glance. Although there is no table of contents, navigation is not a problem, considering it is a 6-page document. There is no art present thought, so you will have to rely on your imagination and each race’s description to picture what these feytouched creatures look like. Additionally, the document would benefit from a proofreading pass, as some minor typos or copy-paste oversights appear, like referring to the horse form while describing seal and swan subraces.

Final thoughts

Feytouched is a nice source of inspiration and ideas for gaming tables that enjoy magical beasts and shapeshifting abilities. If you are looking for something different other than the official options, you can give it a look.
