#RPGaDAY2026 – Days 22 to 29

Getting back from vacation was a bit more difficult than expected.

Being tired from travel and then having to get back to a huge amount of work took its toll. So I am a few days behind. Let’s fix that. This is going to be a rapid-fire round.

Day 22 – Grit

I think I mentioned this about my Wizard, but I believe it works well here. Going into a cave with goblins, past a Fighter and a Barbarian, was not the best choice, but definitely a fun one. And the outcome was even funnier. The Wizard took out a goblin and then took 2 arrows that took him out. Even though he had various ways to attempt to reduce or avoid the damage, the rolls were way too high to succeed. For me, that was funny moment part 1. Part 2 was when the Wizard came back to consciousness and scared the Barbarian, who at that very moment asked the rest of the group what they were supposed to do with me. I count the whole situation as toughing it out.

Day 23 – Fortune

Good fortune was all over the place in our latest Pirate Borg session. One of the characters manages to get rolls against him that basically kill him, but he’s lucky enough to use his Devil’s Luck and barely survive. He ended up doing this 3 times during one session. The best part is that the player who’s playing that character is equally chaotic.

Day 24 – Distance

My preferred distance in any type of RPG conflict? I usually play characters who find themselves in the heart of the conflict. However, seeing things from a distance with my Wizard gives a different perspective, which adds a more tactical element. I could position the character better and more easily, and have managed to, overall, avoid being the main target. But then again, give me a Fighter with a glaive, and I will be happy forever.

Day 25 – Familiarity

One game I want to get more familiar with? Well, I’ve already mentioned Death in Space and Forbidden Lands, so I will go with a different one for this question. However, I will stay in the sphere of Free League Publishing and say Tales from the Loop. I have both the RPG and the board game but haven’t managed to play them yet. I feel ashamed.

Day 26 – Regret

One game I regret not trying. Every single one on my bookshelf that I haven’t tried yet.

Day 27 – Hunger

One thing I hunger for most from a session is to enjoy being there. I want to play with people I like and do things that will bring laughter to the table. I don’t mean having my character be a clown, just things that can be funny for the whole group. A back-and-forth between characters, failing forward, even having a Barbarian fall on you and that marking the first damage to ever take in the campaign count.

Day 28 – Devotion

The game I have played the most is D&D 5e. The second one would probably be Open Legend RPG, but that may probably be dethroned by Pirate Borg very quickly.

Day 29 – Labour

Thing you are most willing to work on for a game? This question confuses me a bit. Am I to take the word game as the system I will be using? Or is it a system I would work on? For example, if I were to run a campaign set in Eberron, I would put a ton of work into exploration. I would want my players to be able to enjoy exploring the continent, which is also, in my opinion, one of the key elements of the setting. Now, if I were to work on a system, I would love to find a way to add some modularity to it, but without causing way too much chaos. What I mean is allowing players to use specific chunks of rules only if they want to, but also not bloating the game time if they do. But I think that’s a dream.

Look at that. I managed to catch up, and just at the right moment, with only two days remaining. Tomorrow’s prompt is pride. I guess some boasting is in order for tomorrow.

And until next time, have fun!
