D&D 30 Day Challenge: Day 4 – Favorite gameworld

It’s day four of the D&D 30 Day Challenge! This time it’s about my favorite Game World.

To be honest, I don’t have a lot of experience on published game worlds, yet. I’ve played a one-shot in Eberron and have been a DM for a couple of sessions in the Forgotten Realms. Most of the games I have DMed are located in my homebrew worlds. However, from the two published worlds I have experienced I will pick Eberron because it is the one that has made the bigger impact on me.

Eberron is a world set in the period after a kinda apocalyptic event that has scarred the land and its people. The use of magic at its lower levels is very common in the world but higher levels are rarer than in others. I consider this a good idea. Add fantasy technology into the equation and you get what I consider one of the best settings. I really like the combination of magic and technology in general and, for me, Eberron does this well enough. It is steampunk but not that steampunk. It is disliked by some but I find it refreshing.

Another element of the world I like a lot is the fact that Houses/Guilds exist and are very influential. That’s a personal preference but I believe they are very interesting and can be used easily in the creation of a lot of content. And that isn’t limited to Eberron. The plane of Ravnica, from the card game Magic: The Gathering, houses 10 guilds. All of the sets that have been released, until now, and are set in Ravnica tell the story of the conflict between the guilds.

Last but not least, I like the Warforged and the Artificer. I really like their flavor. However, I’m not sure if the Artificer as a Wizard archetype is the right choice. Anyway, I hope a new Unearthed Arcana comes out with updated stuff like they did with the Mystic.

So that’s my favorite game world. Eberron is one of the concepts that has influenced my homebrew world and almost everything I have mentioned above have been used in one form or another in it. Tomorrow I will be showing off some of my awesome dice!!

So until then, have fun!
