Map – Randomly Generated Dungeon #1

I wasn’t planning to post a map today, but oh well.

I decided to post a map this Monday as well. And it’d be absolutely fine if my decision had been made sooner. I had much less time than I prefer having for drawing maps.

Initially, I had a really interesting idea for a map. However, I needed a lot of time if I wanted to actually make it, so I had to put it on pause and do something else. That meant that I had spent a lot of time on a map that wouldn’t be ready for today, and I had even less time to make one.

I was in a pickle. Of course, I could just not post a map and nobody would care because this isn’t supposed to be a regular thing, but I’ll come back to that later. So, what does a good Dungeon Master do when things look grim? They seek guidance in the Dungeon Master’s Guide of course!

I opened the DMG and checked out the contents. And there it was. I had forgotten about that really awesome appendix. Appendix A: Random Dungeons is one of the amazing tools the DMG for 5th Edition has, and I’m ashamed to tell you that I haven’t really used it. Well, to be precise, I hadn’t used until yesterday.

The map I have for you today is a randomly generated dungeon using the DMG random dungeon creation tables. Of course, I had to make a couple of tweaks here and there, mostly because I had limited space to draw on, an A4 sized sheet of paper.

Sadly, I don’t have a story for this map. I’m lucky enough to have it ready for today. But for this reason, and a couple more – including some technical difficulties, I’m seriously thinking about returning to this map in the future.

For now, I’ll be releasing the maps under the above Creative Commons License, but this may change in the future.

I know it’s not perfect but, if you end up using this map, I’d love to hear how you used it.

And before I leave you, I have one last thing to talk about. Are you interested in me doing this regularly? Maybe a Monday Map or something? I like drawing maps and I don’t mind sharing some of them. I believe I can do this once per week if you’re interested so please let me know what you think.

And until next time, have fun!
