NPCs can be fun.
I mostly have the role of the Game Master so I doubt I’ve had a memorable NPC as a player. That means I’ll be presenting a memorable NPC from the perspective of the Dungeon Master.
Jimjar is a Deep Gnome that can be found in the Out of the Abyss adventure. He is one of the prisoners at the start of the adventure and a possible companion for the first half of it.
Jimjar is a rogue-ish character with the very bad habit of gambling. He would use gambling as a way to make others do what he wanted but, funnily, he wasn’t immune to that tactic. And that’s what I love about him. He had a really interesting quirk that allowed a lot of shenanigans to ensue.
Having a really fun quirk to use probably made me roleplay him better. I guess this is why some of my players enjoyed having him as a companion, when it was tiring to have a ton of them. And since it provided enjoyment to my players, he is memorable to me.
That’s my answer for today’s question. I’m sure you have more memorable NPCs from your games and I’d love to know about them.
Tomorrow’s question is about my favorite recurring NPC. This may be a bit hard but I’ll give it a try.
So until then, have fun!
