D&D 30 Day Challenge: Day 27 – Favorite curse or cursed item

Hey all! It’s day 27 of the D&D 30 Day Challenge. Today I’m here to talk about curses and cursed items. To be completely honest, I have zero experience with curses or cursed items so I had to do some research in my books in order to write this post. The Dungeon Master’s Guide and the Monster Manual had some interesting information for me. I picked a curse and a cursed item for today so let’s begin!

The curse I liked the most is the curse of lycanthropy. A character struck with this curse can be beneficial for both the player and the DM. Stats-wise the player can enjoy bonuses for his character. Besides that, the curse can be source of extra roleplaying, stories and quests.

Now is the turn of my favorite cursed item. I was between the Berserker Axe and the Sword of Vengeance. In the end the sword won. I really like the flavor that the sword is possessed by a vengeful spirit. And in order to release yourself and the sword from the curse you have to cast banishment on it. The idea that popped into my head immediately was to make the sword immune to banishment and the only way to remove the curse would be to fulfill the spirit’s wishes that make it want to stay in this world. Of course, since my party is usually good or neutral, the spirit would have to be good aligned. Or should I make it bad and see what happens? Hmm….

Anyway, that’s all for today. Tomorrow we change topics again and I’ll be talking about a character I’ve sworn off playing.

So until then, have fun!
