For the month of July, the D&D team provides a quick way of creating characters.

This document contains a collection of roll tables that can help you create characters very quickly. However, these tables contain the information needed to only create characters from the Basic Rules. This means that the races covered are the Humans, Halflings, Elves and Dwarves and the classes covered are the Clerics, Fighters, Wizards and Rogues. The Backgrounds are an exception and all of them are included. It has to be noted here that this document is meant to be used to create 1-level characters so there are no tables for the Archetypes.

I like the fact that this document is just for the Basic Rules. People who can’t own the Player’s Handbook can use it too to create their characters. Plus, I like rolling on random tables. However, that doesn’t mean that I wouldn’t like an expanded document that covers all of the Player’s Handbook and even maybe Elemental Evil’s Player’s Companion and Sword Coast Adventurer Guide.
