#RPGaDay 2016: Day 26 – What hobbies go well with RPGs?

What other hobbies have beneficial effects in a roleplaying game group?

I’d like to split these hobbies in two categories.

In the first category belong the ones that work more or less like sources of inspiration. Board games, card games and even video games can help you come up with interesting ideas for your next session, campaign or even world. Another way they can help is when some players(or DMs) are not as punctual as they should be. I should also mention books. They can be very good sources of ideas. Many ideas of mine have popped up in my head while reading a fantasy novel.

In the second category belong the crafting hobbies. For example, drawing can be quite helpful. You can draw your characters, places, monsters and much more. A subcategory of drawing, which I’m really into, is cartography. Drawing the map of the world you have created is amazing. Also, if you’re into painting minis then you can create your character’s mini in Hero Forge and then paint it yourself.

There are many more crafting hobbies that can benefit an RPG group. I have seen many crazy projects like awesome gaming tables, amazing dice bags, wonky dice rollers and much more. All of them offer something to our hobby, one way or the other.

Tomorrow’s question is: “Describe the most unusual circumstance or location in which you have gamed.”

So until then, have fun!
