Bale’s Outfitting Outpost is a module by Jeff C. Stevens. It contains a 2+ hour adventure that can be adjusted for levels 1st-3rd, 4th-5th, 6th-8th and 9th-10th. It also includes a lot of extra content and many magic items.
This is an 18-page product with a 4-page appendix, which I will talk about later. It can be used as a whole in any campaign setting. However, what I really like about it is its versatility. Apart from the adventure itself, this module contains a lot of content that can be used separately. Actually, you can even break down the adventure and use parts of it for adventure hooks. Allow me to explain.
The first part of the module describes a trading outpost and its owner, Bale. There are plenty of services offered in it so the characters will be happy. This, by itself, can be used anywhere you want in your campaign. Also, I found Bale interesting as an NPC and apart from the included adventure, you can easily use him as someone who could contract the characters for more work.
Moreover, Bale collects magic items and that’s why this product also contains 20 of them. Two of them can be found in the Throne of Bone adventure as well, which I have talked about here, but the rest of them are brand new. They range from magic weapons and armor to magical instruments and more. I believe they are balanced so I don’t think they will create any power problems. Also, they are not tied to the adventure so you can easily use them however you want.
The adventure is a three day journey where the characters have to accompany Bale to a nearby town. Each day, there’s a number of encounters that can occur which also contain some more interesting NPCs. Some of these encounters can be easily used separately, even as adventure hooks. The level adjustments for the encounters can be found in the appendix.
Speaking of the appendix, it contains four Battle Stat Trackers that you can use, depending on the party’s level. As I have mentioned before, I really like the idea of these trackers and I find them quite useful.
Ultimately, Bale’s Outfitting Outpost offers a good amount of content for its low price and you may want to get it for a variety of reasons. The adventure can be nice for a quick session, the magic items can be a good addition to your hoards and the outpost and the NPCs can help you fill your world.
