What things do you need to keep a game enjoyable and ‘good’ for the long term?
Each person finds different stuff enjoyable. You can’t run a roleplay heavy campaign for people who are not into roleplaying and expect it to last a long time.
What I mean is that the investment and enjoyment of the players are very important. You can create an amazing campaign in a fantastic setting but it will go to waste if the players are not enjoying it.
However, what’s also important is your enjoyment. Your players may be enjoying what you have prepared for them but if it’s not the style of gaming you like, then the campaign won’t last.
Which leads us to communication. There must be good communication between the players and the DM. Talk to your players and learn what they like and don’t like. Combine that with your preferences and create something all of you will enjoy.
And that’s my answer for today. I bet everyone has their own answer since it was a very broad question. So go and check out other peoples’ answers too. Tomorrow’s question is: “Who would be on your dream team of people you used to game with?”. That’s going to be fun!
So until then, have fun!
