It’s a bit late in my neck of the woods.
And since I have a pre-release tomorrow, I will be a bit quick, or I’ll try at least.
I was thinking about today’s prompt all day, and I couldn’t come up with something I really wanted to talk about. But earlier this evening, I had a discussion about one of the campaigns I’m part of (the one I am playing the wizard I’ve been mentioning), and I remembered something. Mercy can be such an interesting concept within the game. In one of our sessions, two clerics and a fighter spent half an hour of real time arguing in-game how the party should deal with some non-combative goblins. The funny part about this was that all three wanted to be merciful, but each one had a different idea regarding the approach. And I’m not talking about “haha, let’s give them mercy by killing them” mercy situations. They were arguing whether they should leave them where they were, or bind them temporarily until the party could explore the rest of the cave they were in, or shoo them to a different part of the cave. All that while nobody knew how to speak Goblin.
For my part, I kicked back and let them have their fun, especially since the players were somewhat enjoying this in-game argument. And I kinda enjoyed it as well because situations like these allow the GM some very precious time mid-session to take a short break and regroup their notes and thoughts. But it also gave me some time, as a player, to reorganise my thoughts on the matters at hand, except the one about herding Goblins from one place to another.
This argument also helped some of the players to shape their characters a bit more. I enjoyed the more tactical approach and arguments of the fighter, since it aligned with his backstory of being a soldier. The clerics were a bit harder for me to understand, but they played their characters, I’m sure.
And I think that’s all for today. Tomorrow’s prompt is Resolve. I may have another story related to that campaign for this one as well.
And until next time, have fun!
