It’s 10.30 pm, and it’s still 30 degrees Celsius (86F). It needs a steely resolve for me to write this.

No, seriously. I’ve been out of the house since 10.30 in the morning. Between the Hobbit pre-release (more on that later this month) and a bunch of other errands, I am back home now without having the chance to think about today’s prompt. But as I said yesterday, I may have a short story about the campaign I’m playing the wizard I’ve been talking about through some of the prompts.

This campaign is using 5e rules, but with various 2e era homebrew additions. On top of that, there are a couple of rules that add a bit more danger. For example, death saves succeed on a 12+. This means squishier characters are in more danger due to their extra squishiness in the first levels.

But when you see an Ogre remove part of a comrade’s head, you can’t really hold back. Especially when that ogre died and fell on top of that unconscious comrade. My wizard made a gamble. He knew there were goblin archers at key locations that were hard to hit or reach. He also knew that, unless something was done quickly, there was a serious chance his friend would not survive. So he hoped his defences would be enough to protect him and left his well-protected spot (that also gave him no chance to fight back) and went into an open area. His gamble was half successful. He managed to neutralise one of the goblins, which allowed the rest of the party to move a bit more freely and finish off the rest of them. The hilarious part is that the other half of the gamble did not succeed, and he ended up unconscious as well. But, in the end, I believe his decision was the right one. I could go on talking about how he believes fate plays a huge role in all this, but I will leave it for another day.

And I believe that’s all for today. Tomorrow’s prompt is Privilege. Now, I shall turn off every electronic device that produces even the smallest amount of heat and try to cool off.
