#RPGaDAY2026 – Day 10: Secret

So many secrets, so little time.

As a GM, I spend a good amount of my time thinking about facts regarding my worlds that are not common knowledge. These can help me shape my worlds, the style of my campaign, and other details. The funny thing is that many of them may never be shared with anyone else other than myself. I’m sure I’m not alone in this. And we can’t really complain, as these secrets play their role, at least partially.

The same thing should go for characters. Like I mentioned with burdens, secrets are a nice way to shape the backstory of your character. But these secrets are kept from your fellow players and not the GM. Otherwise, they cannot incorporate them into a campaign if they don’t know about them. But, still, like the many secrets of a GM that may not come to light, character secrets may stay hidden if the timing does not allow them to be used.

Now, I would have continued with some secrets of my worlds, but some of my players read this, and I prefer keeping them close to me for the time being. So I will stop here. Tomorrow’s prompt is Tact. This could be fun.

And until next time, have fun!
