I’m not going to pick myself because it wouldn’t make any sense.

I don’t really have a go-to review person. If I’m interested in an RPG I’ll have to do some research about it.

I’ll definitely check the publisher’s website, Board Game Geek, RPG.net, and EN World. Also, if the RPG is listed in DriveThruRPG, there’s a chance I’ll find some useful reviews there. The same goes for Amazon. Of course, I run a couple of google searches as well, in case there is a helpful review in a blog somewhere.

And that’s all there is to it, I think. But since, my answer was very short, I’ll answer an alternate question as well.

What do you look for in a review of an RPG?

In a review for an RPG, the first thing I want to see is information about character creation. How easy is it? Is it new player friendly, or will it take me more than an hour to create my first character. After that, I’d like to cover the core mechanics. How many are there, and how complex are they? Also, another thing I’d like to see in a review is information combat. How fast is combat and how complex can it get? Finally, I’d also like to know which genre is meant to be used with and how difficult is it to convert it in order to use it with other genres.

And that’s all for today. I hope that the alternate question somewhat made up for my lack of a strong answer for today’s question. I’d love to know where you go for RPG reviews, and what you expect from one.

Tomorrow’s question is “Which ‘dead game’ would you like to see reborn?”. This is going to need some research from my part. I’ve been playing for only 3 years so I don’t know many RPGs, let alone ‘dead’ ones.
