That wasn’t in my plans.
I don’t want to waste your time so I’ll make this as fast as possible. Apparently, I’ve been shadowbanned on Twitter. Before you say Twitter doesn’t shadowban people I will stop you right here. Based on their blog post, the way they define shadowbanning allows them to say they don’t do it. However, what they’ve done has similar results so I’ll keep calling it that.

My account has received a search suggestion ban. I’ll try to explain as best as I can. Accounts that do not follow me can’t find me using the search function. There is an exception for accounts that have some sort of indirect connection to my account. That’s not exactly the definition but that’s pretty much it. If these accounts want to find me they have to use the advanced search. Also, anyone who isn’t logged in can’t find me either.

An easy way to test that for yourself is to open a browser window, go into incognito mode, go in Twitter and use the search function to find me. My account won’t come up and neither will my tweets. You will see, however, other people tweeting at me.
I’m not sure when that happened and of course I have no idea why that happened. And the latter is the product of the former. If I have no idea when it happened I can’t pinpoint anything that I’ve done that could cause it. And Twitter, of course, isn’t going to say anything because shadowbanning doesn’t exist.
I don’t believe it’s something I said because I try to be as family friendly as possible and stick to talking about our hobby and coffee. There are a couple of things I have done that could have caused this but this is more speculation from some research I’ve done.
Twitter is one of the outlets I’ve been using to talk with people who share my love for the hobby. It’s also a place I can share my work. In fact, it’s the first place I started sharing my content. The fact that it’s throttling my account is doing damage. I can see some signs from the Twitter analytics but I believe things will get worse if this continues.
Can you help?
Maybe. You can go here and open a ticket stating you can’t find my account. This could be an error from an bot checking for suspicious activity. False negatives aren’t that uncommon. Maybe if a lot of people send a ticket saying they can’t find me Twitter could unban my account. If you could do this, I would be grateful.
Another thing you can do is follow me on other social media.
- Instagram is where you can find more cartography from me. Also, do you want to see my dice and MtG card collection? Then that’s probably a place you should be.
- Facebook is where a very filtered stream of my content can be found. Do you want mostly notifications about my content and not a lot of spam? Then it’s a good place to go.
And, of course, you can keep visiting the blog here, my YouTube, and my Patreon page if you want to support me.
And that’s all for now. I’m sorry for the lack of content. My exams have started and studying takes the majority of my day. I wanted to try and post something interesting today but I had to do some research and write this instead. Thank you for reading. You’re all awesome.
And until next time, have fun!
